Hobie Sailboats
|
Hobie catamarans are iconic, fast and fun. Their colorful sails can be seen on almost every body of water on this globe. Generations of sailors have raced Hobie cats. On February 6, 1970, Life Magazine ran an article about “The Cat that Flies”…and Hobies are still the best ride! Read the History. The Hobie 16 pictured in that Life article has endured the test of time. It is still being produced in the USA. Of course, every aspect of the boat has been upgraded and improved. Alongside the Hobie 16, there are two new fiberglass racing machines: the FX One and Wild Cat. Both cats are built in Europe but available to the US market. |

For more all around fun, Hobie offers 3 roto-molded catamarans: the Bravo, Wave and Getaway. Built in the US but available worldwide, these boats are great for family fun and racing.
In 2008, Hobie again brought innovation to multihull sailing – the sailing kayak! Also roto-molded in the USA, the Adventure Island and Tandem Island are versatile and nimble.
Although roto-molded hulls, do not cut through the water as sharply as fiberglass, their advantages are numerous:
- Uni-body manufacture - no joints to potentially leak
- Hardware is added to the hull during the molding process thus creating more robust and stronger bonds between hardware and hull
- Roto-molded hulls can take the beating of being beached and hauled on to a river’s edge.
- Plastic resists UV degradation from the sun much better than fiberglass
