Pedaling Watercraft

Hobie reinvented surfing.  Hobie revolutionized sailing.

Now they have transformed the world of kayaking.  You can still paddle Hobie kayaks but now you can pedal  too!  Their innovative MirageDrive pedaling system is a whole new flat-out, live-fast, have-fun, adventure.

Here's how the MirageDrive works: you pedal by pushing alternately left and right, not unlike an exercise stepper, to drive the two underwater flippers.  They work much like a penguin's fins to propel the Hobie Mirage with surprising speed and ease.  ‘Feet first’ gets you further, faster, with an emphasis on fun!

Building on Hobie’s sailing heritage, each kayak can also be outfitted with a sail.  In fact, Hobie has turned its sleekest kayak, the Hobie Mirage Adventure, into a fast multi-hull by adding outriggers!

Leave it to Hobie to make kayaks that fly!

Each Hobie Kayak is a seamless, roto-molded, polyethylene torpedo:  sturdy, stable, and swift.  The result?   Boats that glide over the water effortlessly, gracefully.

All kayaks have a closed-deck design with self-draining scuppers and seats to keep you dry.  Not only are Hobie Kayaks easy to paddle and pedal, they're easy to pull.  With sure-grip handles both fore and aft.  Most models also offer on-deck paddle storage.  Our molded-in cup holders bring beverage service to the main cabin.

The advantages of roto-molding are numerous versus other molds and fiberglass:

  • Uni-body manufacture - no joints means less potential for leaks
  • Hardware added into the hull during the molding process creates more robust and stronger bonds between hardware and hull
  • Roto-molded hulls can take the beating of being beached and hauled on to the river’s edge
  • Plastic resists UV degradation from the sun far better than fiberglass

Hobie… still the best ride!
